Whitsunday turtle rescue centre WTRC

Whitsunday Turtle Rescue Centre is dedicated to providing vital care for sick and injured marine turtles. The Whitsunday Turtle Rescue Centre houses five quarantine tanks and we ensure that each turtle receives the care they need.

Since 2013, we have proudly enabled the successful rehabilitation and release of over 270 marine turtles in the Whitsunday Region. Previously, these turtles often faced uncertain fates, but now our efforts have led to a significant in successful releases. We work closely with the Queensland Government’s Department of Environment, Science and Innovation as a permitted facility to rescue, rehabilitate and release sea turtles.

If you’re out and about and spot a turtle in distress, you can report the turtle by calling 1300 130 372.

Collaborative Care

We work closely with organisations such as Orchid Valley Veterinary Surgery, Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre, Mackay District Turtle Watch, JCU Townsville, and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service. This collaboration ensures that every turtle receives the specialised care it requires.

A crucial factor in improving turtle survival is the increased awareness within our community. Thanks to the public’s ability to recognise and report sick or injured turtles, we can help more turtles than ever before.
